Sally West is a painter from Australia. Her art works are an exploration of light, she is able to give back to the eyes the feeling of light reflected from the sand on a sunny day, the material sound of the waves in a crowded colorful beach.
Sally, where do you get your inspiration?
As I am predominantly a plein air painter I get most of my inspiration from my environment.

Which is the reletioship and influence beetween your cultural backgorund (country, studies, etc.) and your artworks?
Having grown up on a sheep and wheat farm in outback Australia I wonder if this helped direct me towards painting in the outdoors. Having grown up in the outdoors I think this has impacted how I work as an artist. Being in a studio everyday feels unnatural. I enjoy heading outside to paint.

What are you much focused in?
I am focused on exploring the light and my own personal colour palette mostly.

Have you encountered any difficulties when you first started your art/freelance career?
In the beginning it was hard to build an audience. These days it is a lot easier with social media.

Over these years, what is the most important thing you have learnt from your profession?
I have learnt that it is important to believe in yourself and to work hard. Nobody gets anywhere without working hard.

Do you think that a creative job is just creativity or it’s discipline too?
It most certainly in my mind is a discipline. I think that everyone is creative but possibly what defines an artist is the discipline and drive to keep exploring your chosen medium.

Are you currently work on new projects?
I am currently working on plein air paintings and still life pieces. I am also interested in exploring the self portrait, which has been a very private pursuit up until recently.
